Social Programme
Our Social Programme consists of two parts. There is a social programme planned on the first day (the 23rd of January) and a separate social programme on the second and third day (24th and 25th of January).
Social programme 23rd of January
The so
cial programme on the 23rd is very special and completes the first day. The programme starts at 16.00 hrs after the opening speeches and keynotes in the Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen (KIT). We leave from the KIT for a guided boat tour in the canal district.
The boat will be taking you to the next location; West Indisch Huis (WIH) where you will enjoy a nice dinner with music. West Indisch Huis is a beautiful location in the center of Amsterdam. You will enjoy a conference dinner and party with a DJ at this historical site.

A visit to the OBA Amsterdam Public Library

Meeting point & time: 5.45pm at the “Blue Blocks”, close to the registration desk at the Benno Premselahuis (formerly: Singelgrachtgebouw), Hogeschool van Amsterdam. You will walk together with a student to the Amsterdam Public Library. If you go by your own, please let us know and be at the reception of the Library between 6.15 and 6.30.
Needed: a Tram/ Metrocard
This is a test for a multimedia library “quiz”tour with a tablet and QR-codes. Designed by students from the honours program from the Hogeschool van Amsterdam for young students visiting the library. It will give you a tour through the Amsterdam Public Library.
The Amsterdam Public Library stands as a modern architectural gem on the Oosterdokseiland, just a five-minute walk east of Central Station.Its more than just a library. In addition to unique collections, the library boasts a theatre, a radio station, conference rooms, exhibition space, a music department, study pods, a readers café and a restaurant with an outdoor terrace overlooking the city. And it has a dynamic design; its cutting-edge and ecological design earned it the prize of ‘Most Sustainable Public Building in Amsterdam’. The unique selection of seating allows you to take in amazing south-facing panoramic views.

Amsterdam City Centre & Redlight District Tour

Fee:this event costs 10 Euros. We kindly request you to pay at the registration desk on Tuesday between 11:00am and 5:00pm.
Meeting point & time: 5.30pm at the “Blue Blocks”, close to the registration desk at the Benno Premselahuis (formerly: Singelgrachtgebouw), Hogeschool van Amsterdam. You will walk together with a student to the “Nieuwmarkt”, at the “Waag” building. If you go by your own, please let us know and be there at 6.00pm.
Needed: a Tram/ Metrocard
We will gladly show the Amsterdam’s center from another side. This guided city walk will bring you along captivating spots in the most impressive and senior part of the town and the associated red light district area. There will be professional tour guides to tell all the legends about the oldest buildings and monuments, mysterious sculptures, famous churches and the Chinatown of Amsterdam. Of course the guide will also tell all interesting facts concerning the red light district and the ladies of pleasure. Never vulgar or disrespectful, always interesting. The tolerance and world known sexwork in Amsterdam will be discussed from Amsterdam’s point of view.
During the tour, there is also a possibility to make a pubstop for a little break for a drink and a laugh. During the tour there is of course time for questions and discussion, too. An interactive and entertaining city walk of about 2 hours. The drinks during the tour are not included. These can be paid in cash right away or we can put them on the final invoice which will be sent to you after the event.

A visit to the Amsterdam City Archives

If you go by your own, please let us know and be at the reception of the City Archives before 4:30pm.
Needed: a Tram/ Metrocard
The Amsterdam City Archives preserves documents pertaining to the history of Amsterdam and provides information about the city. With archives covering a shelf-length of about 35 kilometres, the Amsterdam City Archives is the largest municipal archive in the world.

A city walk: “Amsterdam through the eyes of Rembrandt”

Rembrandt was a Dutch painter. He is generally considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history and the most important in Dutch history. In this tour we are walking through the city with the eyes of Rembrandt; included are the house of the art dealer Hendrick van Uylenburgh, The Rembrandt House (1639), the westerchurch, Portuguese Synagogue and the old church.
A city walk: “Jewish Amsterdam”

Highlights of Jewish history and culture in Amsterdam.
Last but not least the BOBCATSSS Café is open on Tuesday and Wednesday. Location of the bar is in the Stayokay Hostel. You can also stay at the Stayokay hostel in Amsterdam. They have special rates for BOBCATSSS guests.
